Biography
Franco Puliafito studied at the High School of Music of the State Conservatorium “F.A.Bonporti” where, in 1993, under the guidance of teacher Michele Fait, he graduated in French Horn.
He decided to further his musical preparation by studying Composition, and in 2000 he obtained his Diploma in Composition and Wind Band Instrumentation under the guidance of M° Daniele Carnevali. In 2004 he obtained his First Level Degree in Conducting at the Tilburg Conservatorium (Netherlands) and in May 2007, on invitation from the same Conservatorium, he received a grant with which obtained his Second Level Degree in Conducting with M° Hardy Mertens. Still under the guidance of M° Mertens he completed his Master in Conducting and Composition in Singapore.
He dedicates much of his time to French Horn playing, which led to him founding the Natural Horn Quartet “Leitget”, at the moment the only quartet of this kind in Italy, with which he has an intense and constant programme of concerts. He collaborates with various orchestras such as: the Orchestra Haydn of Trento e Bolzano, the Orchestra of the Arena di Verona and the Orchestra “Chigiana” of the Marche Region. He often takes part in chamber music groups, however he prefers wind orchestras, with which he has gained significant experience at International level. He is often invited as a guest conductor by other National and International wind bands, such as: the Orchestra di Fiati of the Conservatorio di Parma, the Singapore Armed Forces Band, the Banda dell’Esercito Italiano with which he has collaborated as a composer and the String Orchestra of the city of Hsinchu, Taiwan, for which he is permanent guest conductor since 2012.
At present he is the resident Brass teacher at the Scuola Musicale delle Giudicarie (Trento) and French Horn teacher at the Istituto Provinciale Musicale “Vivaldi” in Bolzano.
He runs Band Conducting courses organised by the Scuola Musicale delle Giudicarie for the Federazione dei Corpi Bandistici of the province of Trento and also in the province of Brescia where a regular course for Conductors is active since 2013.
Between 1994 and 1997 he conducted the Banda Comunale di Caderzone (Trento) with which he was assigned the Second Category at the provincial classification contest in 1996. Between 2001 and 2010 he conducted the Banda degli Istituti Superiori di Tione di Trento with which he held numerous concerts both in Italy and abroad (Austria, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece and Croatia). Between 2003 and 2008 he conducted the Corpo Musicale di Vestone (Brescia) and from 2009 to 2011 the Banda Comunale di Pinzolo (Trento) with which he took part in the prestigious International Contest “Flicorno d’Oro” and, in the Classification category, was awarded Third Category.
Since 2009 he is Conductor of the Banda Intercomunale del Bleggio (Trento) and since 2007 of the Corpo Bandistico di Borgosatollo (Brescia) with which he has obtained important and prestigious recognition: in 2010 the Superior Category at the national classification contest and in 2013 Gold Medal in the Second Division with promotion to First Division at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Netherlands), the highest level competition for wind orchestras in the world.
Since 2000 he is one of the composers of the Scomegna ed. musicali Torino and of the Animando ed. musicali Sondrio with whom he has a close collaboration.
From 2007 until now his many original compositions for band, often performed both in Italy and abroad, have been mentioned in national and international competitions and used as compulsory pieces for National contests in France and Germany.
He has received many commissions for original pieces and transcriptions, the most recent is the piece which was premiered at the WMC 2013 held in July in Kerkrade (Netherlands).
Since 2015 is a member of the Technical Commission of the Trentino Bands Federation.
